BACKGROUND HISTORY

In 1962, Christian Kjaer laid the cornerstone of what would later evolve into KJAER GROUP, establishing RENAULT KJAER, a local dealership in Svendborg, Denmark. Despite modest beginnings, Christian’s vision and determination propelled RENAULT KJAER to prominence. By 1966, the dealers hip boasted a two-floor showroom and a team of 15 employees, earning recognition as one of Denmark’s top dealerships.

In 1977, export activities commenced with an order from the Danish Volunteer Service in Zambia, laying the groundwork for our global reach. In 1980, the company relocated to modern facilities in Svendborg’s industrial hub, rebranding as BILHUSET CHR. KJAER A/S. Securing dealership rights for prestigious brands like Austin/Morris, Rover, and Fiat.

The export activities increased in 1985 as a result of the widespread draught and famine in Ethiopia prompting a global response from international organizations. In 1989, KJAER & KJAER was established, focusing on serving customers in developing countries. Under the son of Christian, Mads Kjaer’s leadership the showrooms in Denmark were transformed into offices, and now only focused on export activities, catering to global customers’ needs.

In the early 1990s, KJAER & KJAER left the shores of Denmark. It was important for the brand to be closer to its customers – to be able to understand their needs and come up with the best possible transportation solutions in Uganda and Mozambique. The offices matured into MOTORCARE Uganda for official Nissan distribution in 1995 and later acquired Ford and Hyundai in 2023.
